A Special Community Tribute to Kirby Grochal As many of you know, Andrew Grochal lost his wife, Kirby, to cancer in 2023. No matter what she was facing, she never missed a night of reading with Derek and Sydney — it was a special tradition that meant so much to their family. In honor of Kirby’s memory and her love of books, Andrew and his family partnered with the Auburndale Community Library to create something meaningful for children in our community: a mural in the children’s room, a donation of books, and expanded children’s programming. This meaningful project was made possible through the memorial fund that so many of you generously supported, and the Grochal family is deeply grateful. The library will be hosting a small event to unveil the mural and celebrate Kirby’s life, and all are welcome to attend. Sunday, April 12

| Help Beautify Williams Playground & Grounds! Do you think the Williams playground and school grounds could use a little extra care this spring? Here’s your chance to make a difference! Join us for NewtonSERVES—an annual day of community service in Newton—happening on May 3, 2026. On this special day, volunteers come together across the city to clean, plant, and improve parks, school grounds, and open spaces, helping prepare our community for the season ahead. The city will provide all the necessary materials—we just need enthusiastic volunteers! We’re also looking for a NewtonSERVES Project Manager.
In this role, you will: - Coordinate with the city on materials and delivery
- Help organize and recruit volunteers
- Lead the effort to beautify our school grounds

| Something for Tired Parents 😉 Down Under Yoga is opening a studio in Wellesley, featuring fitness classes, wellness programming, and recovery options—an exciting new addition to the local community. See below for more information:
Down Under Yoga Wellesley is designed as a full wellness destination—bringing yoga, Pilates Reformer, and recovery together under one roof. The studio features two spacious yoga rooms (70 + 50 students), a dedicated reformer studio with 9 reformers, and an exclusive recovery suite with a Finnish sauna, red light therapy, and cold showers.
Our Founding Membership is $199/month (valued at $240 once fully launched) and includes unlimited classes at all Down Under locations, 4 reformer classes per month, and full access to the recovery space. Only a limited number of memberships remain at this rate, and we expect them to sell out by the end of the week.

Newton Girls Softball — Spring Registration Open! Spring registration for Newton Girls Softball is now open! It’s a wonderful opportunity for girls to get outside, build skills, make new friends, and have fun after a long winter. The program is very beginner-friendly and focuses on creating a positive, supportive, and low-pressure environment for players of all experience levels. Food Rescue at Williams: Reducing Waste, Helping Neighbors Williams is participating in a districtwide food rescue effort aimed at reducing food waste while getting nutritious food into the hands of those in need in our community. During lunch, students may place any unopened, uneaten, nonperishable items from their school-provided lunch (items from home lunches are not eligible) into a designated collection area in the cafeteria.
Each week, these items are picked up by a student leader at Newton South High School, who packages and distributes them across the district.
The Williams Green Team is currently seeking a parent/caregiver volunteer to help with weekly pickup and delivery. The role involves collecting the donated items from Williams Elementary School—ideally on Wednesdays before 3:00 p.m.—and delivering them to Newton South (approximately a 10-minute drive).
